Embracing God's Holy Surprises
Scripture:
"The wind blows wherever it pleases. You hear its sound, but you cannot tell where it comes
from or where it is going. So it is with everyone born of the Spirit." ~ John 3:8
Devotional:
I’m currently reading Draw the Circle: The 40-Day Prayer Challenge, and in one of the chapters, the author talks about holy surprises—a concept that resonates deeply with me. As the year comes to a close, I find myself still asking the Lord to surprise me. I’ve learned to expect the unexpected when it comes to God because, as John 3:8 reminds
us, His Spirit moves like the wind—mysterious and free.
The ways in which God works often leave me in awe. Just when I think I’ve figured out what He’s doing, He surprises me with His predictably unpredictable nature. And I love it.
The beauty of walking with God is that He is always full of holy surprises. Whether it’s an answered prayer in an unexpected way, a sudden breakthrough, or even strength to endure a challenge, God has a way of showing up that
keeps us marveling at His greatness. Each time He does, it deepens our faith and reminds us of His sovereignty.
One thing I can predict with absolute certainty is this: the more you pray, the more you will experience holy surprises. Prayer opens the door for God to move freely in your life. It’s not about controlling the outcome but trusting His process. When you align your heart with His through prayer, you invite His Spirit to move in ways beyond your
imagination.
As you close out this year, keep praying boldly and expectantly. Trust that God is working in ways you can’t see yet. And when He surprises you—and He will—take a moment to pause, reflect, and give Him glory for His faithfulness.
