Conquering Rebellious Thoughts That
Resist God’s Peace
Scripture:
"Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding." ~ Proverbs 3:5
Devotional:
Last week, we talked about Releasing the Weight of Unrealistic Expectations, and now it's time to conquer rebellious thoughts. Sometimes, our negative thinking is fueled by our resistance to surrendering to God's way. Have you ever asked someone to do something you knew was right, yet they continuously resisted? That same resistance can arise
in our relationship with God, disturbing our peace.
I remember struggling with this in something as simple as loading the dishwasher. My husband had his way of doing it, and every time I heard the glasses clinking together, my peace was disturbed. Then one day, I realized—what did I truly want? Clean dishes. When I let go of the need to control the process and focused on the outcome, my peace returned. The same applies to our spiritual walk—when we stop resisting God’s way and
trust His process, we regain our peace.
Rebellious thoughts are those that resist God's peace and His perfect will for our lives. They often come in the form of doubt, stubbornness, or the desire to be in control. We think we know what’s best, and when things don’t go our way, frustration and anxiety take over. These thoughts lead us away from the peace God freely offers.
Proverbs 3:5 reminds us to trust in the Lord with all our hearts and not lean on our
own understanding. When we surrender our rebellious thoughts and trust in Him fully, we position ourselves to receive His peace and walk in His divine purpose.
Prayer:
Lord, I surrender my thoughts and my will to You. Help me recognize and resist rebellious thoughts that lead me away from Your peace. Teach me to trust You fully, even when I don’t understand Your plan. Fill me with the assurance that Your
way is always best. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Challenge:
This week, identify one area in your life where you have resisted God's direction. Pray and ask Him to help you surrender that thought or situation fully, trusting Him completely.
