Staying Connected to the Source
Scripture:
"Let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith." ~
Hebrews 12:1-
Devotional:
This morning, I had the privilege of speaking to middle school students who needed encouragement and motivation to stay the course. As I shared with them, I couldn’t help but reflect on how, even as adults, we face similar challenges. In the midst of charting our course, distractions and obstacles often arise. Just as these students face struggles, we too contend with the schemes of the enemy, who works tirelessly to pull us
away from God’s purpose for our lives.
Jesus reminds us in John 15:5, “I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me, you can do nothing.” Staying connected to the vine—Christ—is critical for remaining strong and focused. Satan is always busy, seeking to derail us through doubt, busyness, and temptation. Yet, when we intentionally cling to Jesus, we find the strength, guidance, and motivation we need to
press forward.
C.S. Lewis’s words offer a powerful reminder: “There is no neutral ground in the universe; every square inch, every split second, is claimed by God and counterclaimed by Satan.” This truth challenges us to be intentional with every moment. Every decision we make—no matter how small—either reflects Christ or leads us further from Him.
As you embark on this new year, let your motivation flow from a deep connection with Jesus. Be
intentional in guarding your time and focus. Don’t let distractions pull you away from your calling. Lean into God’s Word, immerse yourself in His truth, and trust Him to direct your steps.
