, Have you ever noticed how easy it is to follow Jesus—until it costs you your comfort?
Maybe you had your whole day planned, and suddenly, a friend calls in crisis. Or God nudges you to forgive someone when you’d rather just keep your distance. Sometimes, these moments reveal a struggle: we want to be Christ-like, but we
don’t want to be inconvenienced.
But here’s the hard truth I’ve learned (and am still learning): You can’t walk Christ-like if you’re unwilling to be inconvenienced. Jesus’ entire ministry was marked by interruptions—by people who needed Him, by crowds who pressed in, by moments that were anything but convenient. And yet, every inconvenience became an invitation to reveal God’s love.
Devotional: The Gift in the Inconvenience
There’s a story in
Luke 8:43–48 about a woman who interrupted Jesus on His way to help someone else. He could have kept walking. He could have ignored her. But He stopped, listened, and called her “Daughter.” That interruption wasn’t a detour from His purpose—it was the purpose.
Sometimes, the very thing that throws off your plans is the thing God wants to use to shape your heart. Being Christ-like isn’t about having a perfect schedule or always feeling ready. It’s about being
available—especially when it’s inconvenient.
I’ve learned that spiritual growth rarely happens in my comfort zone. It happens when I choose to love, serve, or forgive—even when it costs me time, energy, or pride. That’s where Jesus meets me. That’s where He meets you, too.
Prayer
Lord, give me a heart that welcomes inconvenience as an opportunity to love like You. Help me see interruptions as invitations, not obstacles. Make me willing to pause, listen, and
serve—no matter what it costs. Amen.
Your Turn: Reflect & Respond
- Think of a recent moment when you felt inconvenienced. How did you respond?
- Ask God to show you one way you can embrace an interruption this week as an act of love.
- Write down what it would look like to make yourself available to God, even when it’s uncomfortable.
