This week’s reading brings together two powerful streams:
the worship and honesty of the Psalms and the holiness and order of Leviticus.
In Psalm 1, we are told that the one who delights in the law of the Lord is “like a tree planted by streams of water… whatever they do prospers.” At first glance, prosperity sounds like success, promotion, or material increase. But when we read
closely, we see that biblical prosperity begins at the root.
A planted tree is stable.
A rooted tree is nourished.
A rooted tree produces fruit in season.
Meanwhile, Leviticus 16–27 reminds us that holiness matters. God provides a way for His people to be cleansed, restored, and set apart. He establishes rhythms of atonement, obedience, and blessing—not to restrict them, but to protect and prosper them
spiritually.
I remember when I received orders to Iraq. My first thought was, “Lord, I am too old for this.” It wasn’t what I would have chosen for myself. Yet God had a plan far greater than my comfort. The place where I was assigned to work was just five miles from Abraham’s home in the city of Ur. What a blessing it was to sit, pray, and reflect in a land so deeply connected to biblical history.
That assignment did more than stretch me—it
prospered my soul.
Prosperity is not always about ease. Sometimes it is about positioning. Sometimes it is about pruning. Sometimes it is about placing you in a space that deepens your dependence on Him.
Psalm 3 reminds us that even when enemies surround us, the Lord is our shield and the lifter of our head. That is prosperity—peace in pressure, confidence in calling, and rest in God’s sovereignty.
God wants us to prosper; not
just externally, but internally. Not just in comfort, but in character. Not just in resources, but in righteousness.
Reflection
As you reflect this week, consider this:
Where is God planting you right now that may not feel comfortable but is positioning you for spiritual prosperity?
Prayer
Father God,
Thank You for reminding us that true prosperity begins in our hearts. Plant us deeply in Your
Word and help us trust You in every season—especially the ones we did not choose. Prosper our souls, strengthen our faith, and produce fruit that honors You.
Let us flourish from the inside out.
In Jesus’ name,
Amen.
