Open to Receiving Good Things
Scripture:
"Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights,
who does not change like shifting shadows." ~ James 1:17
Devotional:
How often do we stop and declare, “I am open to receiving good things in my life”? Sometimes, the greatest obstacle to receiving God’s blessings is our own mindset. We may feel undeserving, unprepared, or even unaware of the good things God is trying to pour into our lives.
Recently, I had to reflect on this myself. For my anniversary, my husband bought me a beautiful new
ring, but instead of embracing the moment, my thoughts were, “I don’t need it, it’s too big.” As I caught myself, I realized I wasn’t in a place of gratitude. Sometimes, God is trying to give us His best, but we forgo His blessings because of our own hesitation or doubt.
Over the next several weeks, I will challenge you with questions designed to empower your days and shift your perspective. The first question to ponder is this: “What am I happy about in
my life right now?" Sometimes, we’re so busy focusing on what’s missing that we forget to recognize the good things already present in our lives.
When we intentionally focus on the blessings around us, we begin to see life through the lens of God’s provision. We stop striving and start receiving, realizing that His gifts (😍love my ring) are already in motion.
Opening yourself to good things doesn’t mean ignoring challenges; it means believing that God is working all things together for your good (Romans 8:28) and choosing to see His hand in every situation.
Reflection:
- What am I happy about in my life right now?
Reflect: What brings joy to your heart, and why?
- What does this happiness reveal about God’s goodness?
Reflect: How is God showing His
faithfulness through the good things in your life?
- How can I open myself to receiving more of God’s blessings?
Reflect: What mindsets or habits do you need to adjust to make room for God’s abundance?
Prayer:
Lord, thank You for every good and perfect gift You have placed in my life. Help me to see the blessings around me and to open my heart to receive more of Your goodness. Teach me to rethink my thoughts, align my
perspective with Your truth, and walk in gratitude each day. May I never take Your faithfulness for granted and always remain expectant for the good things You have in store. Amen.
Challenge:
This week, take 10 minutes each morning to answer the question, “What am I happy about in my life right now?” Write your answers in a journal, along with why these things make you happy and how they make you feel. Let this practice help you cultivate gratitude and
position your heart to receive more of God’s blessings.
