Last week, I decided to take Lil Red—my retirement car—for a drive. My husband had reminded me that if I didn’t drive it often, the cylinders might mess up. So off I went, feeling pretty good about driving to my meeting. But over halfway to my destination, Lil Red started losing power.
Of course, the first name I called on
was Jesus! I had a decision to make: keep going or turn around. I decided to press forward since I was closer to my destination and trusted that if I needed help, someone would be there. When it was time to head home, I called my husband, and he said calmly, “Take your time, drive slow on the access road and stay in the right lane.”
As I walked back to the car, I was praying—really praying—and the
Holy Spirit whispered, “Talk to Lil Red about your God.” So I got in, placed my hands on the wheel, and said, “Lil Red, I command you in the name of Jesus to get me home safely. Every cylinder, do what you’re supposed to do.”
When I hit the city limits, the stop-and-go lights made me nervous. My head was hanging low, fear trying to creep in, but then I heard that still, small voice say, “Hold your
head up! You’ve already prayed—now act like you believe it.” I straightened up, leaned back in my seat, and drove home like someone who trusted God to finish what He started.
As I pulled onto my street, I couldn’t help but smile and thank God. He has a way of giving us life stories to remind us that faith doesn’t always look fancy—it looks like obedience in motion.
Sometimes, just like Lil Red, we lose power along the way—life stalls, things go wrong, or fear grips us. But when that happens, God reminds us: “Get on the access road. Slow down. Stay in the right lane. I’ve got you.”
You see, it’s not about how fast we get there; it’s about trusting that God will get us there safely.
