As we enter Joshua 1–4, the people of Israel stand at a defining moment. Moses has passed, Joshua has stepped into leadership, and the people are finally preparing to cross the Jordan River into the Promised Land.
For years, the promise had been in front of them. Yet their journey had been delayed by fear, doubt, and disobedience. Now God calls them to move forward with courage and
obedience.
God tells Joshua to be strong and courageous, reminding him that His presence will go with them wherever they go. The people must step into the water before the river parts. Their movement of faith precedes the miracle.
As a biblical counselor and coach, one question I often ask is this:
How much is it costing you to stay stuck?
Sometimes we remain in places God never intended us to stay—held
back by fear, past experiences, or uncertainty about the future. Yet just like the Israelites standing at the Jordan, God calls us to step forward in faith.
The crossing of the Jordan required trust. The priests had to carry the Ark and step into the water before anything changed. Once they moved, God moved.
Women of Worth, sometimes the breakthrough comes after the step.
Joshua 4 reminds us that after they crossed, God
instructed them to build memorial stones so they would never forget what He had done. Those stones were reminders that when God leads, He also makes a way.
Sometimes the biggest obstacle is not the river in front of us—it is the hesitation within us.
God’s question is not whether the promise is real.
The question is whether we are willing to move.
Reflection
- What area of your life might God be asking you to
move forward in faith?
- Is there a place where fear, comfort, or past disappointment has caused you to remain stuck?
- And the question worth asking honestly is this:
How much is it costing you to stay where God is calling you to move?
Prayer
Father God,
Thank You for reminding us that Your promises require our faith and our movement. Give us the courage to step forward even when the path feels uncertain. Remove fear, hesitation,
and doubt that keep us from moving where You are leading. Help us trust that when we step out in faith, You will make a way.
In Jesus’ name,
Amen.
