As we enter the book of Job, we encounter one of the greatest examples of unwavering faith in all of Scripture. Job was a man described as blameless, upright, and devoted to God. Yet, in what seemed like a moment, his world changed. He lost his possessions, his children, and eventually his health.
One question naturally arises:
Why do bad things happen to good
people?
While the book of Job doesn't answer every question about suffering, it does reveal something even greater: the character of God and the perseverance of a faithful servant.
Job never understood everything that was happening behind the scenes. He didn't know about the conversation between God and Satan. All he knew was that life had changed.
Isn't that true for us?
There are seasons when we don't
understand why a door closes, why a diagnosis comes, why a relationship ends, or why a prayer seems unanswered. We search for explanations, yet sometimes God calls us to trust Him even when we don't have them.
One statement from Job has echoed through generations:
"The Lord gave and the Lord has taken away; may the name of the Lord be praised."
What incredible faith.
Job teaches us that worship is
not dependent on our circumstances. It is rooted in our confidence that God remains faithful, even when life feels uncertain.
As the story unfolds, Job's friends arrive. They come with good intentions but soon begin offering opinions instead of compassion. Instead of simply sitting with Job in his pain, they try to explain what they cannot fully understand.
Women of Worth, this is a reminder for all of us.
Sometimes the greatest ministry
we can offer someone who is hurting is not an answer but our presence.
Last week's reading invites us to ask a deeper question:
Can I trust God even when I don't understand what He is doing?
Faith is not believing that life will always be easy.
Faith is believing that God is always good.
Prayer
Father God,
Thank You for being faithful,
even when life is difficult and we don't understand Your ways. Help us trust Your character when we cannot see Your plan. Strengthen our faith during seasons of loss, uncertainty, and waiting.
Teach us to be women who worship You in every season and who offer compassion to those who are hurting. May our confidence rest not in our circumstances but in Your unfailing love.
